Welcome to Aftercamp: A Place for Builders and Learners

Chances are, you're one of the first people to ever read this. That’s not false humility, it's just a fact. This is the very first post on a brand-new site, launched into the void with nothing but a vision and a lot of Confluence Docs.

But hey, you've got to start somewhere.

So what is this place?

Aftercamp is a platform I’ve been dreaming about for a while. It’s for builders. For learners. For anyone who wants to understand how to create great digital products. For people who wants to stay sharp as the tools and technologies for building those products evolve faster than ever.

When I finished my degree in Video Game Design and Development, I wasn’t ready for the job market. I had bills, responsibilities, and pressure to figure things out fast. And in Minnesota, game development jobs weren’t exactly falling from the sky.

I knew I wanted to get into programming, but I had no idea where to begin. What ended up saving me were online learning platforms. I pieced together what I could, taught myself as I went, and somehow made it work. It wasn’t structured, it was chaotic. But it was a start.

Since then, I’ve had an incredible 20-year career in tech. And I’ve done my best to give back, through teaching in college classrooms, launching bootcamps, and creating online courses. Over 20,000 people have learned with me in some form.

You can still find those courses on Udemy, O'reilly, PacktPub, and elsewhere. But I’ve always wanted to build something more focused, more intentional. A single space with clarity and purpose. While I’ve built programs and published content before, none of it ever felt like the thing I was trying to build.

I believe Aftercamp can be that thing.

We’re going to explore the skills and concepts that help people make real, useful digital and physical  products. From foundational web technologies to modern AI tools. Whether it’s building from scratch or integrating new systems, the goal is the same: to understand how things work and to keep improving.

This isn’t a wish list. Most of the content is already written. It just needs to be produced and polished. The roadmap is clear.

The first major project is already in motion. It's awesome. It something I wish I had it year one of my career. Something aimed at helping engineering teams grow through more structured conversations.

Eventually, I want Aftercamp to be more than just a learning hub. I want it to be a community. A place for people to collaborate, share what they’re working on, get meaningful feedback, and stay up-to-date with the fast-moving world of tech. Maybe we start with a Discord or Slack. Maybe we build tools that give real-time, AI-powered guidance. Maybe more.

It’s ambitious. But that’s kind of the point.

I believe AI is going to supercharge people’s ability to build, learn, and launch. And I want this to be the place that helps them do it.

So if you're here early, welcome. You’re part of the very beginning. There’s not much here yet, but there’s a lot coming.

I am so excited to build with you.
